Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Continuing our journey in the "Say HI to..." series, our next stop takes us to the sunshine state of Australia. We're thrilled to introduce you to YHA Brisbane City, a hostel that perfectly encapsulates the vibrant and adventurous spirit of Brisbane

Why you should go

Queensland is known as the sunshine state of Australia, and its capital city Brisbane is packed full of fun.

It’s the city where art meets outdoor adventure, so if you’re a creative who loves sunshine - this is the place for you! Brisbane has a big city feel, but with a sub-tropical climate, friendly atmosphere, and vibrant outdoor spaces.

Here’s a city itinerary to make the most of a visit to Brisbane:

  • Swim: Overlooking the Brisbane River and CBD is South Bank Lagoon, Australia’s only inner-city man-made beach surrounded by white sand and sub-tropical plants.
  • Experience: One of only 3 bridge climbs in the world, The Story Bridge Adventure Climb Experience in Brisbane offers panoramic scenes of ‘Brisvegas’ and beyond.
  • Discover: The Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) boasts a vast collection of works of historical, modern, and contemporary art and is constantly evolving. Situated with the Queensland Cultural Centre, entry is free, and you can also check out the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Queensland Museum, and the State Library of Queensland.
  • Shop: Head to Fortitude Valley for Brisbane’s best shopping precinct with everything from designer labels to quirky boutiques.
  • Eat: For a bite to eat there’s nothing like Eat Street! Priceless river and city views frame a giant complex filled with dozens of shipping containers converted to street food stalls, reflecting Queensland’s tropical, breezy way of life. Entry is $6, giving you access to international street food vendors, serving up everything from paella to Japanese pizza. Enjoy the beautiful artwork, live music, and friendly vibe as you wander through the stalls in search of the perfect tasty treat.
  • Witness: The best sunset spot over the city is the popular Kangaroo Point Cliffs. This inner-city suburb on the banks of the Brisbane River is a photographer’s delight with unmatched views of the city, river, and the famous Story Bridge.
